Love these shoes. I walked the Camino de Santiago in them and I have wide feet with foot problems. Very comfortable and sturdy. My only problem is that the sole wore out and I am going to ask for an exchange as they only lasted about 2 months. That being said Solomon is a good quality company and I expect a replacement. Again only a replacement because I am impressed with the comfort and quality of the shoe with that 1 exception and think this might be isolated. Highly recommend these, even though they are last years model.I have had several pairs of these and the higher ankle version. Great shoes! I was glad to snag a pair in my size for this low price.I believe Salomon is moving on to the Ultra 4 which explains the price being about $50 less than REI and others. If they have your size, snatch them up as you will not be disappointed.Just did an 11 mile moderate to difficult hike. These are an all day, high mileage shoe. Highly recommended!I ordered this brand a half size smaller than my hiking boots I use for backpacking since I planned on wearing these with regular socks only rather than the sock liners with wool or smart wool socks I use when I do more intense hiking. The shoes still fit, although a little more snug than I expected. I probably could have gone with the same size as my hiking boots, but the snugness is not what I would call too tight, it is actually about as tight as I would probably want them to be if I were actually hiking, which would prevent friction blisters. Since these are hiking shoes, I am 100% okay with this. Something else of note is that they are snug enough I do not need to tighten the quick lace for everyday wear. If I were needing to run or going on an actual hike or through very rough terrain I would pull the quick lace tight for what I would call "sport mode" to prevent my feet from slipping out. Even though they are quite snug, they do not hurt my feet and without tightening the quick lace they hold my feet well enough I am not concerned about them flying off, while still allowing me to put my feet in and take them out of the shoes with ease. They will probably become my go-to day hiking shoes rather than putting on my much larger and robust Salomon boots that require a good deal of effort lacing and tying. The convenience of these shoes is just so convenient when paired with their durability, waterproofness, and excellent traction. One downside to their traction is that they were designed for more natural surfaces, so when I walk on my newly sealed driveway with wet soles or while the driveway is wet, the shoes do feel like they have much less traction and could cause me to slip if I am being too reckless. The first pair of shoes were too narrow and so I gave them to my son and bought a wide size 13 and these fit perfectly.GTX waterproof membrane is a bit warm but well worth it when in wet environments.put the lace thing behind the laces and no problem very comfortable. Just started wearing them and can't review the lasting part of them . I did wear them for a very difficult job where i was on my feet for hours volunteering for a fair vender. They were comfortable the whole time and that was the first time I wore them. No real break in period needed for me.This is the best hiking shoe I have ever owned. No break-in period is needed. I had to get the Wide version because the regular size was too narrow for me. I normally wear regular sizes, so I assume this brand runs a little narrow.I did not want the waterproof version due to the extra heat, but Soloman did not provide wide sizes in the non-waterproof version. So I had the shoe repair shop install 4 grommets on each shoe to provide better ventilation. Back in the old days, grommets were commonly placed on tennis shoes for better ventilation. I also put in leather insoles which are cooler than foam.I love these shoes!Third pair. They last about a year of heavy use. Soles wear flat if worn on anything other than trails. Absolutlely love the fit/function. I actually have an extra pair ready to go when these wear out--love them.I had a previous pair of Salomon X Ultra GTX and they are finally getting a little tatty, so I decided to buy a new pair.Unfortunately they seem to have changed the design slightly. They are much narrower than my current ones and the heel section is different which means my heel now slips and rubs even with the laces fully tightened. In comparison, my current pair which are very worn still do not slip on the heel and are so comfortable!I would not recommend these. These shoes feel like boots in their solid feel on your foot. Also great for descent as advertised. The fancy lace system that I thought would be useless are actually amazingly effective. In 7 hours of hiking I only had to pull them tight once after putting them on initially. All in all I'm really pleased with these hiking shoes. I had strayed from Salomon and bought some equivalent Meindl but after 4 months have gone back to these shoes and as hoped they are fabulous.OK I TAKE IT BACK - 15 months on and these shoes leak like a sieve. Also they are ripped and torn apart even with normal trekking usage. Contacted the company Jomodo (German company) through Amazon who told me that legally they have no requirement to do anything as the material was all OK when they sold them ??? I don't debate that but as they have been used for the purpose sold and have not lasted anytime then I suggest not fit for purpose! These shoes are superb. Great fit and very comfortable. A brilliant price as well. The ‘quick lace’ system works really well and keeps the shoe firmly on your feet. I’d give the shoes themselves 5 out of 5.The only problem I have is once the laces need replacing the problems begin. My dog got hold of the shoe box and wrecked it and then managed to break/bite one of the shoes laces. I therefore needed to replace the lace system on one shoe. I managed to buy a replacement lace system on amazon and once received that when the issues started. I’m short, very difficult to fit and doesn’t hold tight like the original lace system.I would think carefully therefore before buying these becuase of the lace system and this is only why I’ve given them a 3 scoreI don't know if it is this particular model from Salomon or if it is usual across their range, but it was horribly narrow and anyone with regular or larger width feet are not going to tend to fit in their usual size from everyone else, you will need to order a larger size than usual or as I did return them and look elsewhere for a company that marks their sizes properly.I use these for everyday use as they are so comfortable. I’d heard and read so many good reviews about these shoes and I can safely say that all of them are true! I also love the colour which makes a change from the usual ‘grey’ style that these usually come in. Initially I was sent the wrong size but after contacting the senders ( SportsShoes.com),who were brilliant btw, I was sent the correct ones. Overall, incredibly happy with these and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone/everyone.????
