I have very high arches and I have only one rule for footwear-it must be comfortable. None of the "high fashion" looks with aching feet for me. Then along come these hiking shoes which I got for a trip to Peru and then for hiking around the US where we live in a motorhome. From the instant I put them on, they felt like shoes I had worn for years as they enveloped my feet in comfort with nice arch support. But they are also very attractive and I have worn them on more "formal" occasions-going to restaurants and even Thanksgiving dinner-and not felt like I looked like I was walking around in my running shoes. They look slimmer than other shoes but do not feel cramped. They have held my feet in place as I walked along rain and snow slick surfaces, up rocky inclines and along city streets. My feet, even after hours of hiking, are not tired at all. When others are peeling off their shoes at the end of the day complaining of aching and tired feet I am still running around and have forgotten I still have them on. I have found that they should air out, preferably worn every other day, but have not done so. They will need a little "odor" control when we return from this trip where I have worn them every day. The only problem is that I am now wondering what to do with my comfortable but much heavier wonderful Merrell hiking boots.
